Can this PCB be directly swapped on my WD10EACS HDD. I believe mine is bad and trying to get the disk to start spinning.
For WD PCB swapping, just need to check the board number.
When you swap the PCB, you need to move your original PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB. The 8pins (4 pins on each sides) with 25P05VP、25P10VP、25F512、25F1024、25F1024AN、SST25VF512、SST25VF010, etc. are the BIOS.
I believe the Bios chip is integrated into the main processor on this model, and the main processor is the chip that is smoked on the board.
Yes, the PCB’s BIOS is integrated into the Main Controller IC. You should exchange the Main Controller IC to let the HDD be recognized. Move the Main Controller IC(the biggest chip on the board) is a complex job which need you have certain technique. Some electronics repair shop can do it.
Last Question:
I believe it’s the Processor, the main chip is burned. Brown burn markings on opposite side of the PCB board, So the original BIO’s is fried too.
Can those platters be donated to a *new* identical donor HDD, (with new PCB and heads mechanism? Or would the BIO’s still not be tuned enough to make it functional with the old platter discs?
Or Put new PCB and Heads into the old HDD body and not touch the Platters (which is effectively the same thing)?
Main Controll IC broken, swapping PCB may not help.
