Q: My Seagate pcb was broken. I purchased a new PCB. Main Controller IC is same as the damaged one. However, the Motor Combo IC number are different. Oirignal one is SH6960B; the new one is 100369972. I want to know the new PCB can be the donor PCB of my original one? Shall I need to change the BIOS?
A: Seagate Hard Drive PCB Swap Replacement Guide:
Match the board number which is etched on the PCB. The number is printed on the PCB’s back side (the side without chips). For example:
When you get the donor PCB, you need to move your original PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB. The 8pins (4 pins on each sides) with 25P05VP、25P10VP、25F512、25F1024、25F1024AN、SST25VF512、SST25VF010, etc. are the BIOS.
You can move the BIOS from your original PCB by using hot-air gun, then solder it on the replacement board. Please refer: http://www.datarecoveryunion.com/hard-drive-rom-chip-swapreplacement/. Or you can find the electronics repair shop to help you.
