After a power outage my Western Digital Black 2TB drive is no longer accessible. I do not need the data on the drive, but I would like to be able to use it again. What are my options? I figure the pcb got zapped, but the mechanics are likely OK.
Your HDD can spin or not?
It does spin up. It does not show at all in Windows 10 Disk Management.
If your HDD can’t spin, you can swap PCB to try.
Please advise the board number which is etched on the PCB, as the attached photo.
First, to clarify:
1.) the drive does spin. When attached as a secondary drive to my Windows 10 computer and the computer is turned on, it spins up and clicks maybe 20 or so times, then slowly spins down. If I look in Disk Management, the drive shows as needing to be initialized. When I click to initialize the drive, I get the message: “A device which does not exist was specified.” In Disk Management I see my system SSD as Disk 0. The WD drive shows as: Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized. (If I try to initialize a second or third time, I keep getting the same message, “A device which does not exist was specified.”
Second, the board number:
2.) 2060-771624-003 REV A
If the HDD can spin, swapping PCB may not help.
