I had a power surge where my Psu died during shut down, led fans flickered 3 times after shut down and now 5 hhds do not show in the sata ports, don’t spin or feel like they are on.
I stumbled upon you before buying new drives here and noticed 4 out of the 5 have the same pcb serial. I’m wondering, how easy this process is so I can back these drives up. Sounds like you just replace the board and swap out the firmware chip that has 8 teeth on it? I saw any repair shop does this for little on the dollar. I’m interested, Unclear how to post pics from phone here
If your HDD can’s spin, you can swap PCB to try.
Replacement the PCB will not solve the problem below.
* The drive will power up normally (no ticking noises, errors etc) but will not be recognized by the computer
* The drive will power up normally and be recognized correctly but will report a size of 0 bytes
* The drive will power up but report SMART errors on boot
Those problem is caused by the HDD firmware corrupted. You can find a data recovery company help.
