3. I’m trying to recover important data from a friend’s HDD, and unfortunately there are no backups. This was enough of a kick in the pants that he got an external HDD right away but that doesn’t help for right now.
The hard drive is:

I know that the logic board is the problem. I need a working drive controller/logic board that matches as closely as possible. The board’s part number is:
2060-701335-003 REV B
If my friend and I could borrow/purchase the drive off somebody (and buy a new drive for them as compensation), that would be absolutely wonderful. A drive with a similar model number (WD1600JS), date of manufacture within 2 months, and the same (or very similar) PCB will hopefully allow us to recover the data. I’ve done it successfully twice before for other Western Digitals (a 40 and an 80 GB, many WD’s seem to fail in the same way) but both times I had very similar drives that failed for other reasons on hand to swap PCBs.
